Willing to Follow, Willing to Learn, Willing to Fish
Side Two is all about Willingness to Learn
Proverbs 1:5 – “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.”
The following nine points hopefully will increase our knowledge of the things we can learn to give glory to God and to help others.
- WHO? The Trinity
We learn the Plan of The Trinity
- The Father’s Plan – To glorify Himself by making Jesus the center of all things.
- The Son’s Affirmation – Jesus perfectly aligns with and fulfills this plan.
- The Spirit’s Goal – is to lead us into this plan.
Christ promised to send the Holy Spirit to teach us—to guide, convict, and illuminate truth.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity—our divine Teacher, Helper, and Counselor. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit… will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.(John 14:26).
The Holy Spirit teaches those who belong to Christ (1 Cor. 2:12–14). He teaches all truth—illuminating Scripture, glorifying Christ, and shaping us in godliness (John 16:13–14; 2 Tim. 3:16)
Therefore:
- We Regularly read and meditate on Scripture.
- We Ask the Holy Spirit daily to guide and teach us.
- We Pay attention to conviction, promptings, and peace.
- We Learn alongside other believers.
- We Act in faith, as the Spirit leads.
- We make daily decisions of faith… to put off, put on, resist, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

- WHAT is our final authority?

The person, work and word of Jesus Christ is our Final Authority
What seven claims did Jesus make about himself?
We call these claims the 7 things BLADES based on Hebrews 4:12, which describes God’s word as “living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit. Just like the written word, the living word (our Lord) spoke things that divide the Real from the Fake, the Truth from Error, and things that have Value instead of lesser things.
These 7 claims are unique. These are things we have when we have Jesus.
These seven claims sustain us, enlighten us, reveal access to the Father, protect us, reveal victory over death, provide a cogent worldview, and illustrate the importance of abiding in Christ.
- WHEN do we learn?
the Spirit teaches us continually—from the moment of new birth and throughout the believer’s life (John 14:17; 1 John 2:27).
Insert the truth chart and video – truth, beliefs, priorities and actions
- WHERE do we apply the truth that we learn?
The answer is everywhere. Each moment of each day provides opportunities to be like our Lord. Our lives are filled with people, places and things. Think about how the world would be if everyone applied these qualities.
Love | Joy | Peace |
Patience | Kindness | Goodness |
Faithfulness | Gentleness | Self-Control |
The Old and New Testament along with the history of the church is filled with examples of people who made decisions rooted in courage, competence, and convictions. We refer to these people as men and women of character.
Recently, I attended a funeral of a 92 year old friend. Everyone called her Auntie Karel. The pastor asked people if they believed that she was their best friend. Everyone laughed, because she loved everyone and everyone loved her.
We need to be salt and light. We strive to
know the Scriptures and
know how to pray, and
know how to speak truth and love as Jesus loved.
- WHY do we teach people to participate in the Plan of the Trinity?
The Father’s Plan can become our plan. To glorify God by making Jesus the center of all things. When we reflect on all the times Jesus said … I came to do the will of The Father.
The Son’s Affirmation – We can affirm the things that Jesus affirmed
Jesus affirmed that the Father’s plan is:
- Sovereign and eternal
- Centered on redemption through Christ
- Fulfilled through His obedience, death, and resurrection
- Empowered by the Spirit
- Spread through the Church
- Global in scope
- Guaranteed to succeed
The Spirit’s Goal – is to lead us into this plan.
Goal | Scripture Reference | What It Means |
1. Glorify Jesus | John 16:14 | Points people to Christ, not Himself |
2. Apply Salvation (Regeneration) | John 3:5, Titus 3:5 | Causes people to be born again and cleansed |
3. Indwell Believers | 1 Corinthians 6:19 | Lives within each believer as a temple |
4. Empower for Witness and Ministry | Acts 1:8 | Gives boldness and spiritual gifts for mission |
5. Lead into Truth | John 16:13 | Guides believers to understand and apply Scripture |
6. Produce Christlike Character | Galatians 5:22–23 | Transforms behavior through the “fruit of the Spirit” |
7. Unite the Body of Christ | 1 Corinthians 12:13 | Creates unity in the Church and distributes spiritual gifts |
Our prayer – may I be conformed to the image of Christ, walk in truth, and be equipped to teach others (Rom. 8:29; Col. 1:28).
- HOW can I do all this?
Through Scripture, prayer, teachers, trials, and the internal witness of the Spirit
(1 Cor. 2:10–13; James 1:5; Heb. 12:11).
- Create a Bible Study Plan.
I decided to study one book at a time.
I cut and paste one chapter a day into a word document.
I find the structure of the chapter selecting and sorting key words
Soon in one of our zoom sessions I will explain why this works.

- EXAMPLE # 1
List seven people who changed your life. I learned from these leaders.
Rolland A. Ewald my father lived a consistent Christian life. He spent his time teaching the Bible, serving on boards, and integrating God’s truth into the lives of people at work, in the neighborhood, at church, and with anyone interested in knowing Christ. He loved Jesus.
Dr. John Calvin taught me that God does anything he wants to do. He is the author of Reality, Truth and Value. He is the author of our Salvation.
Dr. Martin Luther taught me to not follow religious leaders but instead follow the Scriptures alone.
Dr. William Wilberforce taught me to never, never, never give up. He spent his entire life trying to abolish slavery and advance mortality. He crafted wise arguments in the British Parliament that impacted the entire world. The Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 passed days before his death, freeing 800,000 slaves.
Dr. John C. Whitcomb is best known for co-authoring The Genesis Flood (1961) with Dr. Henry M. Morris, a landmark book that launched the contemporary biblical creation movement. I had one conversation with him and I read the book written by his son David Whitcomb about his father.
Dr. Victor Matthews was an expert in spiritual warfare and theological integrity. He wrote and taught on core themes like the authority of Scripture, sound doctrine, spiritual disciplines, non‑legalistic faith, and a Christ‑centered life. He was a man of prayer.
Dr. Francis Schaeffer was a theologian, philosopher, and Christian apologist best known for helping Christians understand and respond to the cultural and philosophical challenges of the modern world. He founded the L’Abri Fellowship in Switzerland and became a major voice in the 20th century for defending biblical truth in a post-Christian age. He introduced the word Worldview to the world.
I met three of these seven men personally. Others taught others who taught me about the other four men.
- EXAMPLE # 2
W.A.G. Strategy is the heart of this discipleship project.
Worldview is what we assume to be real, true, and valuable.
- Four Worldview Laws
- The Worldview Roadmap
Apologetics is providing Reasons, Evidence, and Answers that Defend
The Biblical Worldview.
Genesis the book of beginning is the foundation for our worldview.
- Answers in Genesis (AiG): Founded in 1994 by Ken Ham, AiG is dedicated to upholding the authority of the Bible from the very first verse. They operate the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter in Kentucky, USA, and provide a wealth of resources on creationism.
- Creation Ministries International (CMI): With offices in several countries, CMI aims to provide credible answers affirming the reliability of the Bible, particularly the book of Genesis. They produce a range of publications and conduct speaking engagements worldwide.
- Institute for Creation Research (ICR): Established in 1970, ICR conducts scientific research within a biblical framework and offers educational programs and publications supporting the creationist perspective.
- Genesis Apologetics – Dr. Daniel Biddle – This ministry offers practical resources for pastors, parents, and students, focusing on core creationist positions and aligning with leading creation ministries.
- Biblical Science Institute – Dr. Jason Lisle is the founder. He focuses on defending the biblical account of creation through scientific and logical analysis. The institute offers resources aimed at equipping individuals to rationally uphold the Christian worldview against claims that the Bible is unscientific.
- Is Genesis History? A film that examines the biblical account of creation as presented in the Book of Genesis. Hosted by Dr. Del Tackett, creator of “The Truth Project,” the film features interviews with over a dozen scientists and scholars who advocate for Young Earth Creationism. They present arguments supporting the belief that the Earth and life were created by divine intervention approximately 6,000 years ago, interpreting the Genesis narratives of creation, the global flood, and the Tower of Babel as literal historical events.
- Wonders Center & Science Museum is a prominent science museum located in Dickson, Tennessee, approximately 35 minutes west of downtown Nashville. Spanning over 100,000 square feet, it stands as the largest science museum in Tennessee and emphasizes exhibits that align with biblical values.
- Heavens Declare Planetarium: Recognized as one of the top 10 planetariums globally, offering immersive cosmic experiences.

- Dinosaur Exhibits: Full-size dinosaur replicas, including a 55-foot-long Camarasaurus in the rotunda.
- Interactive Zones for Children: Activities such as a dinosaur sand pit and physics-based car
- EXAMPLE # 3 – The three Cities that surround Jerusalem
Jesus, taught in the Temple, wept over Jerusalem, was crucified outside its walls, and rose again nearby.
Jesus said, “the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,… will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26
“I have chosen Jerusalem for My Name to be there.” – 2 Chronicles 6:6
- The center of worship, government, and prophetic revelation for His people.
- The Temple was built there—where God’s presence dwelt. – 1 Kings 6-9
- Abraham offers Isaac foreshadowing God offering His Son – Genesis 22
- Priests and prophets spoke God’s Word from Jerusalem. – Isaiah, Jeremiah
“The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.” – Isaiah 2:3
- The Gospel was first preached from Jerusalem,
- The early church was birthed in Jerusalem.
- It’s the launch point of God’s Word going to the nations (Acts 1:8).
Other cities …. Athens, Alexandria and Babylon represent the World, The Flesh, and The Devil. Elements of the influence of the thinking of these cities can be found in all cities around the world. The thinking of these cities is like a parasite that feeds off of God’s Truth. Then it mixes truth with error to confuse and pervert the message.
Summary: Learning for the glory of God means:
- Submitting your mind to the Spirit.
- Being daily transformed by the truth of Scripture.
- Growing in Christ to teach and disciple others.
